Advanced Flood Monitoring and Alert System Leveraging IoT for Real-Time Data
Authors: Clara Nguyen, Emily Wong, Derek Chan, Ryan Tan & Dr. Natalie Lim
Abstract:
Flooding is one of the major disasters occurring in various parts of the world. Recently, severe floods affected the south Indian state of Kerala, due to unusually high rainfall during the monsoon season. Flood has large social consequences for communities and individuals. The model is very much useful for the real time monitoring of the water level variation in the rivers, dams, reservoirs and the monitored values are regularly stored in the web server. The two main objective of the system is to serve 1) as information channel for flooding between the involved authorities and experts to enhance their responsibilities and collaboration and 2) as a web based information source for the public, responding to their need for information on water condition and flooding. The use of wireless sensor network (WSN) for monitoring of river and flood conditions. The wireless sensor network system can also be used for real time monitoring of water condition like water flow level and precipitation levels. The model was developed and engaged in monitoring flood.

Towards Robust Outlier Detection: Current Approaches and Emerging Directions
Authors: Amara Hassan, Lina Mertens & Dr. Viktor Novak
Abstract:
Outlier detection is a significant research area in data mining. An Outlier is a point or a set of points in a data set that exhibit a different behaviour compared to other objects. In static data sets, these anomalous patterns or variability can be detected using the traditional outlier detection techniques. The detection of outliers in data streams is a challenging task as changes or updations may take place during data processing and from multiple sources at a high rate. Here conventional detection techniques cannot be applied directly to achieve the time and space requirements in data streams. Combined approaches of several techniques are essential to extract outliers from such knowledge set. This paper focused on various algorithms used in density, distance, clustering based outlier detection among data streams and portrayed the metrices used in outlier detection. Also proposes a generalised framework to detect outlierness of an object in datastreams

A Comparative Study of Leadership Style and Adversity Quotient Among Academic Administrators in Selected Eastern Visayas Institutions
Authors: Nina Korhonen
Abstract:
The study aimed to determine the relationship professional leadership style to the adversity quotient of the academic administrators of selected state universities and colleges in Region VIII. Using the descriptive – correlational research design the instruments consisted of four parts: the personal characteristics, leadership style survey developed by Don Clark and adversity quotient by Stoltz (2012). Majority of the academic administrators were female, married and belonged to 50-59 age group. The academic administrators were doctoral degree holders and worked in the academe for 21 years and above. Most of them had associate professor I-V position. The overall adversity quotient of the academic administrators was categorized as low. Delegative style of leadership was adopted by academic leaders. On the test of hypothesis on the significant relationship between the professional leadership characteristics and the four dimensions of adversity quotient of the academic administrators were not significantly related. Based from the results of the study, adversity quotient should be included as one of the job qualifications to people who work in the academe to improve organizational performance and adopt the LEAD sequence of Stoltz (2012) in improving a person’s adversity quotient.

A Cognitive Approach to Webpage Previsitation Using Recall Dynamics
Authors: Dr. Jonathan R. Black & Dr. Nathaniel S. Walker
Abstract:
Returning to beforehand saw website pages is a typical yet uneasy undertaking for clients because of the huge volume of by and by got to information on the web. This paper use human’s regular review procedure of utilizing long winded and semantic memory signals to encourage review, and displays an individual web revisitation method called Webpage Prev through setting and substance watchwords. Basic methods for setting and substance recollections’ securing, stockpiling, rot, and usage for page re-finding are talked about. An importance criticism component is likewise required to tailor to person’s memory quality and revisitation propensities. Our half year client ponder demonstrates that: Contrasted and the current web revisitation instrument Memento, History List Searching technique, and Search Engine method. The proposed Webpage Prev conveys the best re-discovering quality in discovering rate (92.10%), normal F1-measure (0.4318) and normal rank mistake (0.3145). Our dynamic administration of setting and substance recollections including rot and fortification technique can emulate clients’ recovery and review component. With importance criticism, the discovering rate of Webpage Prev increments by 9.82%, normal F1- measure increments by 47.09%, and normal rank blunder diminishes by 19.44% contrasted with stable memory administration strategy. Among time, area, and movement setting factors in WebPagePrev, action is the best review sign, and context+content based re-finding delivers the best execution, contrasted with setting based re-finding and substance based re-finding

The Smart Mirror of Tomorrow: An IoT Solution for Home Information and Connectivity
Authors: Sophia Keller, Clara Bauer, Emma Fischer & Dr. Lukas Meyer
Abstract:
The paper describes the design, construction and working of the smart mirror. Smart Mirror is one of the applications of Raspberry Pi. A computer screen embedded in mirror looks very futuristic. The Raspberry Pi stays at back scenes and controls the data displayed on mirror. While looking at mirror you can look at various notifications from social sites as well news, weather forecast and more things. Such mirrors can be programmed to work as AI and control home appliances by voice input or touch screen. The Raspberry Pi is connected to monitor via HDMI as well as it also has inbuilt Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interfaces so we can just swipe music and videos to mirror. It is also used for theft detection and for security surveillance in home environment it provides assistance for home automation using IoT

Query Searching Approaches: An Introductory Analysis
Authors:Alejandra López & Prof. Arjen van Dijk
Abstract:
Query mining and query processing were the twomain research domains that needed customization. Every business analyst needs to identify the growth potential of business products. So, they depended on querying techniques and tended to get the connected data including query-based summarization, query recommendation, facet mining and so on. These techniques had some merits and demerits. Facet mining was a recent technique in query searching. However, it has a lot of challenges in the web community. According to this paper, a comparative study of query mining techniques and facet mining had made to enable the researcher to work on it.
